Addressing Key Issues
Managing the issues of concern to our company and the stakeholders who depend on us is vital to the success of our business. The process entails applying what we learn from our work with internal and external groups to our daily decisions.
We focused our efforts on evaluating our cross-company actions to address the issues with the highest priority: affordability of medicines, intellectual property rights, HIV/AIDS, product safety, uninsured Americans, health care disparities, and marketing and sales practices. These issues are key components of the global debate on improving patient access to health care.
To increase awareness of issues among our managers, we created an intranet
site populated with Abbott’s position statements on various issues, as well as
the viewpoints of others who may agree or disagree with our opinions. We will
continually review and enhance processes to manage our issues. We also monitor
emerging issues on an ongoing basis to stay abreast of developments that affect
our company and our stakeholders.
Following are updates on some of our activities in 2007, which are detailed in
the
Addressing Access section of this site.
