Our U.S. Internship program is nationally recognized as one of the best in the country. It is one of only three programs profiled in the America's Top 109 Internships (published by The Princeton Review) that received the highest possible rating in all categories judged.

Abbott U.S. Internship Programs

We evaluate candidates based on grade point average, leadership abilities, communication skills and relevant coursework — the same criteria used for entry-level employee selection. Many undergraduate and graduate students are hired as full-time employees.

As an intern, you will be given an opportunity to network both socially and professionally through organized activities.

For U.S. based internship assignments, housing and transportation may be provided for interns with a permanent address located over 40 miles from Abbott.

Interns receive competitive pay based on discipline and experience.

As an Abbott intern, you will:

  • Assume full responsibility and contribute as a functional professional in your internship area
  • Experience your field through unique business segments within Abbott
  • Learn from, work with, and network with Abbott professionals from multiple disciplines and business units within the company

Required Qualifications

Our program averages nearly 300 students each year across the U.S. Qualifications include:

  • Excellent academic record, preferred 3.0/4.0 GPA
  • Relevant course work
  • Demonstrated integrity, innovation, initiative, teamwork, adaptability, communication, and leadership skills
  • Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship
  • Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship

Preferred Finance and Accounting intern criteria:
  • BS/BA students with an emphasis in Finance or Accounting
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • No more than 1 "C" in accounting classes
  • Nationally ranked school by US News World Report

Marketing MBA

The purpose of the MBA Internship Programs is to create a talent pipeline for our Management Development Program (MDP) and direct hire opportunities in commercial management positions in Abbott’s worldwide organization. Candidates will have an MBA from a reputable business program, proven leadership, innovative and creative thinking, and analytical capabilities.

MBA Interns at Abbott are assigned to a marketing team where they work to complete a project directly tied to a domestic or an international business unit. Our MBA interns will work on a project that will impact the business and provide an overview of the healthcare industry.

Preferred Marketing MBA intern criteria:
  • MBA candidate (completed 1st year) with an emphasis in Marketing, General Management or Entrepreneurship
