Welcome To The Family: Abbott Medical Optics Joins Our Team

Abbott's acquisition of Advanced Medical Optics (AMO), an established global
leader in vision care, has been completed, giving Abbott a long-term
sustainable growth platform with more than $1
billion in annual sales and a leadership position in another large and
growing medical device segment.
The new business will keep the acronym AMO, but it will now stand for Abbott
Medical Optics. AMO is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of
advanced refractive technologies and devices, as well as eye care solutions.
Headquartered in Santa Ana, California, its 3,600 employees are now part of the
Abbott family.
AMO is composed of three segments:

LASIK laser vision correction devices: AMO is the worldwide leader
in LASIK devices, with a U.S. market share exceeding 60
percent (more than three times the closest competitor).

Cataract Surgery devices: More than half of AMO's sales are in this
segment, where it holds the number-two position with 20
percent worldwide share, behind Alcon.

Lens care products: Contact lens and rewetting solutions (the
COMPLETE® brand) and other eye care products compose the third segment of AMO's
business
The acquisition of AMO propels Abbott into an immediate leadership position
in vision care, a $22 billion dollar market that
is expected to grow as a result of the aging global population, and increased
consumer demand for eye care procedures internationally, especially in emerging
markets.
