Donald V. Patton

Senior Vice President, U.S. Pharmaceuticals

Donald Patton is senior vice president, U.S. Pharmaceuticals, leading Abbott's commercial pharmaceutical business in the United States. He assumed his current role In January 2010. Previously, he served as senior vice president, U.S. Nutrition.

Patton has held several senior-level management positions at Abbott, including vice president, Diagnostic Global Commercial Operations, Abbott Diagnostics Division; president and general manager, Abbott Canada; and vice president, International Marketing, in Abbott's international pharmaceutical business. Previously, Patton served at TAP Pharmaceuticals for 10 years.

Prior to joining Abbott, Patton held various sales positions with Johnson & Johnson's Ortho Pharmaceutical group and Becton-Dickinson.  Before entering the health care industry, he gained experience as a teacher, a newspaper editor, and advertising.

Patton serves on the Board of Governors of Smile Train, a nonprofit organization that provides cleft palate surgery for underprivileged children around the world. He is a past president of the Biomedical Marketing Association and a member of the Adjunct Faculty for Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in Chicago.

He earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Missouri at Columbia and a master's degree in management from Northwestern University.
