Abbott exists to help people around the world live their fullest lives – and we know that for many of our employees that includes being a parent.
One of our goals as an employer is to help our workers reach their potential both professionally and personally. That's why we offer benefits that support them along their parenthood journeys – from planning to start a family, to awaiting their child's arrival, to transitioning to parenthood, to navigating life as a parent as their children grow.
This year two employees – Veronica Gravely and Tammy Jones — have been named our Working Parents of the Year as we celebrate our 22nd year on Seramount's list of 100 Best Companies, which honors organizations for offering family friendly workplaces and benefits. These include parental leave, phasing back, fertility benefits, adoption, caregiver benefits, flexible scheduling, mentoring and advancement opportunities.
Gravely is mother to five children: Isaiah, 10; Isabelle, 8; Isaac, 6; Ian, 4; and Irene, 1. She is a supplier quality manager in Abbott's Heart Failure business based in Georgia, where she works closely with her church community.
"I will always encourage young professionals to think of themselves not as the roles that they fill but as who they are," Gravely says. "Positions may come and go, but who you are is irreplaceable and what you bring to the table is transferable."
Jones is an administrative assistant based in California, where she is mother to 14-year-old daughter Cambria. She is widowed and a cancer survivor after her diagnosis in 2018.
"What I have learned and experienced is that support in your professional life is pivotal in being successful in your personal life," Jones says. "The flexibility and networking within Abbott have encouraged and fostered a healthy balance of blending both work and family."
