FreeStyle Libre 3 Sets New Peak in Diabetes Care

The smallest, thinnest and most discreet continuous glucose monitor the world has ever seen.

The funny thing about never being satisfied is you always have an abundance of goals to achieve. While there is no mountain top, per se, there's always more mountain to conquer.

So we just keep climbing, higher and higher.

Our journey to today — with the secured CE (Conformité Européenne) Mark for FreeStyle Libre 3 continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system1 — started years ago with FreeStyle Navigator, our original CGM. From that base camp, we knew we could find a way to finally eliminate routine fingersticks for people managing their diabetes.2

When the original FreeStyle Libre system did just that, we’d set our first anchor point. The view was glorious to help liberate people with diabetes from fingersticks. But we knew we had nowhere to go but up.

Our next summit, FreeStyle Libre 2, provides optional glucose alarms3 to alert people with diabetes of having low or high glucose levels.

And then we climbed, higher still.

Like any modern multitool, we added app functionality with FreeStyle LibreLink4 and Libre LinkUp.5

And our climbing party was joined by Bigfoot, Insulet, Novo Nordisk, Omada, Sanofi and Tandem to integrate FreeStyle Libre with their diabetes care technologies.

With our backpack full of the best gear, FreeStyle Libre 2 then brought with it optional alarms,3 real-time minute-by-minute readings and — best of all — available for kids 4 and older, all through your smartphone.4

And so we climbed. Higher and higher.

With the clean route set forth by FreeStyle Libre 2, our latest CGM includes things you’ve come to expect from our best CGM technology.

Continuous, real-time glucose readings automatically delivered to smartphones5 every minute. Check.

Unsurpassed 14-day accuracy.6 Got it right here.

And now, FreeStyle Libre 3 is now the smallest, thinnest7 and most discreet8 sensor available — all at the same affordable price9 as previous versions of the device — allowing as many people as possible living with diabetes to access and benefit from these significant advancements.

"People living with diabetes are at the center of our design process, and we made our next-generation technology even more discreet for a better user experience to make managing diabetes as easy and seamless as possible," said Jared Watkin, senior vice president, Diabetes Care, Abbott.

"Since we launched the first disposable glucose sensor in 2014, we've always believed all people with diabetes should have access to high-quality, accurate and affordable diabetes technologies," Watkin added.

How small, thin and discreet is FreeStyle Libre 3?

Where FreeStyle Libre 2 is about the size of two U.S. quarters stacked, FreeStyle Libre 3 is smaller, about the size of two U.S. pennies stacked.

That size reduction — by more than 70%10 — makes FreeStyle Libre 3 more environmentally sustainable. It uses 41% less plastic and 43% less carton paper,10 demonstrating the company's continued commitment to sustainability.

We're committed to keeping the mountain clean for the next party.

The FreeStyle Libre 3 system will be available in Europe in the coming months.

We'll keep climbing, our heads in the clouds, dreaming up new and better ways to keep the FreeStyle Libre system the world's leading glucose monitoring11 for people managing their diabetes.
